1890's Navajo Sand Cast Silver Buckle Set with Turquoise and Garnet Crystals

Overall size is 2 9/16" height X 2 7/8" width.  Opening is 1 1/4" height X 1 5/16" width.  41.5 grams.

This unusual open work silver buckle was sand cast using high content silver coins.  There are two different but previous pieces of turquoise, flush set in smooth bezels.  Each of the buckle's four corners is embellished with a round natural form garnet crystal. These were set in hand-serrated bezels.

Of the 12 points radiating from the opening frame, two on either side of each turquoise setting are stamp and chizel decorated.  The design is simple and effectively compliments the rare and difficult openwork.

All of this piece is original and in surprising condition for its age !
