NAGA SEATED WOOD FIGURE

Harry L Neufeld

Konyak Naga - similar to artworks collected and commissoned for the Naga Institute of Culture, in Kohima, Nagaland, in the mid-20th century, and very similar to one or two that found their way into The Arts and Crafts of Nagaland, published in the mid-1960's and based on the institute's collection and research - light wood, seated figure, with a rope of Job's tears bead strands, embedded nails in front and nails protruding from the back of the head, which would seem to show a previous attachment to a wood backing - with a skin cap and clay eyes
