Hopi Polychrome Open Bowl with Abstract Bird by Nampeyo, c.1915

This bowl from Nampeyo’s mature period shows her precise drawing on a well-molded bowl. The graceful abstract bird design at the center of the bowl has excellent dynamism, and is framed between two of Nampeyo’s signature glyphs. Additionally, the bowl has Nampeyo’s signature extra coil on the rim. This is a superb example of Nampeyo’s work at the height of her career. The bowl measures 3 5/8” height and 10 5/8” diameter, and is in excellent, original condition without repair.
