Shrine Vault Door

Mark A. Johnson Tribal Art

Jackfruit wood (Nangka).

Cliff side vault door with buffalo motif carved in low relief. The horns are long and curve around the sides of the door, meeting at the top.
The ears are extra long with the space between head, horns, and ears filled with curved parallel grooves that appear to vibrate,
giving the impression of movement or animation to the buffalo head.

The handle inserted into a hole in the center of the door is another
buffalo head, missing it horns, or perhaps a horse, missing its ears.

The surface is coated in beautiful white limestone deposits and lichen growth.
